“Are you listening to the news?”

The question from Bob Snook took Amber by surprise. “No, Bob, I’m not. What happened?”

Bob gripped the phone tightly. “Turn on the radio or TV. They say the police have the sniper trapped in a downtown hotel.”

“Oh, my God. Maybe he’ll surrender.”

“I don’t think so, Amber. They said he’s already killed two people. Can you go down there? Is there something you can do?”

“I’ll try. I don’t know what I can do, but I’ll try.”

Amber grabbed the keys to her car and said a silent prayer. Please God, don’t let it end like this.
